Pplo of Human Genital Origin
Pleuropneumonia-like organisms (PPLO) have frequently been isolated from the human genital tract since the first report by Dienes and Edsall (1937); their presence in the urethral discharge of patients with non-gonococcal urethritis (N.G.U.) aroused interest because of the unknown aetiology of the disease. The significance ofPPLO in the genital tract and their association with N.G.U. are disput...
متن کاملPossible Significance of Pplo in Human Genital
The organism causing pleuropneumonia in cattle, still a devastating disease in South Africa and parts of Australia, was discovered in 1898 by a group of French workers. In 1923 a very similar organism was found to be the cause of another animal disease, agalactia of sheep and goats. Since then a considerable number of organisms of the same group, some pathogenic, others saprophytic, have been d...
متن کاملIsolation and Characterization of Mycoplasmas (pplo) from Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Reiter's Syndrome.
Using tissue culture methods, mycoplasmas (PPLO) were isolated from synovial fluid, bone marrow, kidney, or serum of 14 of 17 patients with either rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, or Reiter's syndrome. Sensitivity to various antibiotics and the ability to ferment glucose varied, but all strains were sensitive to tetracycline, and hemolysed sheep cells. Antigenic relationships...
متن کاملCarboxypeptidase activity in human mycoplasmas.
Mycoplasma salivarium produced citrulline, ammonia, and ATP from N-benzoylglycyl-L-arginine. The activity was inhibited by EDTA and was therefore concluded to be due to an arginine-specific carboxypeptidase. The activity was also found to exist in M. orale, M. buccale, M. faucium, and M. hominis.
متن کاملStudies of Pplo Infection
Rolling disease has been produced and studied in rats and mice, using the exotoxin of the A strain of Mycoplasma neurolyticum. The primary lesion of the brain consists of spongiform degeneration, associated with vesicle formation in the cortex and underlying white matter of the cerebral hemispheres, and in the molecular layer of the cerebellum. The brains of animals surviving 2 days or longer s...
